The Green Route: The Fast, Worthwhile, Sensible Way to Install a Solar System

-

Over the past decade more and more Israelis have realised that an empty roof is an unused asset, and that a solar system is not only an environmental investment but a financial one. To encourage more homes and buildings to generate their own power from the sun, the electric company launched the green route – a simple, digital, fast process for connecting a solar system to the grid.

Got a roof and thinking about going solar? Here is everything you actually need to know.

What is the green route?

The green route is a fast-track mechanism the electric company runs for private and business customers. It lets you install a solar system on your roof and get connected to the grid in a remarkably short time, without cumbersome bureaucracy.
It is designed for self-generation of solar power, mainly for private homes, shared buildings, shops, small institutions and similar.

Why choose the green route?

  • A simple, digital process – the application is submitted online.
  • Fast approval – usually within three working days.
  • Less bureaucracy – no complex approvals or coordination with additional bodies.
  • Suited to a home system – generally up to 22.5 kW (residential solar system)
  • Net metering available – or selling your surplus electricity to the electric company.

The green route makes installation accessible to everyone: no unnecessary forms, no running between authorities, and professional support from Rotem Energy from the very first step.

Who can install a solar system through the green route?

The green route is open to any customer who meets the following conditions:

  • Owns the property with the roof (or has the owner’s consent).
  • Has a standard grid connection (low or medium voltage).
  • Has a free roof, usually at least 70 sqm for a home system.
  • Meets basic safety requirements (proper earthing, a standard distribution board).
  • Uses a certified, licensed installer such as Rotem Energy.

The financial case for installing a solar system - Rotem Energy

The financial case – why is a home solar system such a worthwhile investment?

A solar system installed through the green route does more than save electricity – it creates real financial value:

  • Thousands of shekels a year off the electricity bill.
  • Payback within six to eight years, depending on the size of the system and your consumption.
  • Selling surplus electricity to the electric company under a guaranteed tariff or net metering.
  • A more valuable property – a house with a solar system is more sought after (much like a house with an extra rental unit, only without the tenants).
  • Simple maintenance and minimal running costs.

And of course – you are generating clean electricity from the sun, helping the environment and reducing dependence on polluting fuels.

Why choose Rotem Energy?

  • Personal service and professional support from the first survey through to connection and beyond.
